This private tour offers a unique journey to Wae Rebo Village, a traditional Manggarai village located in the mountains of Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara, famous for its iconic cone-shaped houses and rich cultural heritage.

Wae Rebo Village Tour – Experience the Hidden Heritage of Flores

Embark on an unforgettable journey to Wae Rebo, a traditional village nestled high in the mountains of Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. Often called the "village above the clouds," Wae Rebo sits at 1,200 meters above sea level and is surrounded by misty peaks and dense rainforest. The adventure begins with a scenic drive from Labuan Bajo or Ruteng to Denge village, followed by a 2.5 to 4-hour trek (6–7 kilometers) through lush jungle trails, river crossings, and uphill paths. While moderately challenging, the hike is rewarding, offering stunning views and a deep connection to nature.

Wae Rebo is home to the Manggarai people, who have preserved their customs and communal lifestyle for more than 18 generations. The village is famous for its seven Mbaru Niang—towering, circular thatched houses with five interior levels, each serving a unique purpose from living space to ancestral worship. These houses are built using traditional techniques, without nails or modern tools, and earned international recognition with a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Conservation Award in 2012.

Visitors are warmly welcomed through the Wae Lu' u ritual, a traditional ceremony that grants you permission to enter and stay in the village. Overnight accommodations are provided inside one of the Mbaru Niang, where you’ll sleep on handwoven mats and share simple, hearty meals made from local produce. With no phone signal or electricity after 10 p.m., the peaceful environment invites you to slow down, enjoy freshly brewed Wae Rebo coffee, learn about traditional weaving, and witness how the community thrives in harmony with nature.

This 2-day, 1-night tour is ideal for adventurous travelers, photographers, and culture lovers looking for something truly off the beaten path. The package includes round-trip transportation, experienced local guide, entrance fees, meals, and overnight stay in the village. With its breathtaking scenery, rich traditions, and warm hospitality, a trip to Wae Rebo is more than a trek—it’s a rare cultural immersion into one of Indonesia’s most authentic heritage sites.

General Notes :

  • Tour Itinerary and Schedule

The itinerary, pick-up time, tour duration, destination sequence, and estimated return time may be adjusted due to weather conditions, traffic, road conditions, local ceremonies or community activities, temporary attraction closures, operational circumstances, government regulations, or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

Where necessary, the driver or tour coordinator may adjust the order of destinations to ensure a smoother, safer, and more comfortable journey.

Safety and operational considerations will always take priority over the original itinerary.

  • Private Transportation

Transportation for this tour is provided by a private vehicle with driver for a maximum of four guests, unless otherwise stated in the official booking confirmation.

The vehicle is reserved exclusively for your group. Mixed passengers will not be added to a confirmed private tour.

The type of vehicle provided may depend on availability, road conditions, operational requirements, and the number of guests.

As several destinations are located outside the main town area and may involve rural, hilly, or village roads, travelling times and road conditions may vary.

Guests are expected to follow reasonable safety instructions provided by the driver, guide, local representative, or tour representative throughout the journey.

  • Entrance Fees and Additional Charges

Entrance tickets, parking fees, local community contributions, village entrance fees, cultural activity fees, local guide fees, and other destination-related charges may apply.

Certain traditional villages or community-based attractions may require local contributions or additional services according to local regulations or community arrangements.

Unless expressly listed as included, entrance fees, community contributions, activity fees, local guide fees, and other destination-related charges are not automatically included in the tour price and must be paid separately by the guest.

Official entrance fees, community contributions, and other local charges may be changed by the relevant authorities, village management, local communities, or service providers without prior notice.

  • Price Adjustments

Tour prices may be adjusted due to seasonal demand, fuel-price changes, supplier-rate changes, transportation costs, government regulations, destination entrance-fee adjustments, community charges, or other operational cost increases.

The price stated in the official booking confirmation or invoice will apply once the required payment has been received and verified.

Any additional service requested after the booking has been confirmed may result in an additional charge.

  • Local Guide and Language Assistance

A professional local guide or language-speaking guide can be arranged upon request and may involve an additional fee.

Hiring a professional guide is highly recommended for guests who would like more detailed information about Manggarai culture, traditional village life, local history, customs, natural attractions, agriculture, and the communities visited during the journey.

Please note that some drivers and local service providers may have limited English-language ability. A professional guide can assist with communication and provide a more informative and comfortable travel experience.

Guides speaking different languages may be arranged subject to availability.

  • Traditional Villages and Local Communities

Guests visiting traditional villages and local communities are expected to respect local customs, cultural traditions, sacred areas, village regulations, and instructions provided by local representatives.

Certain areas within traditional villages may have restricted access, particularly during traditional ceremonies, community events, religious activities, or other important local occasions.

Traditional ceremonies, cultural performances, demonstrations, or other community activities are not automatically included or guaranteed unless specifically stated in the official booking confirmation.

Photography or video recording may occasionally be restricted in certain cultural or sacred areas. Guests are expected to ask permission where required and follow instructions provided by local representatives or guides.

  • Activities and Physical Conditions

Some destinations included in the tour may involve walking, stairs, short hiking trails, village paths, uneven or slippery surfaces, exposure to heat, rain, or prolonged periods outdoors.
