Kanawa, Rinca and Kalong Island
Full-Day Private Traditional Boat Tour 5
Experience the extraordinary beauty of Komodo National Park on a carefully curated private journey to Padar Island, Long Beach, Rinca Island, and Kalong Island.
Unlike many tour packages that attempt to visit as many destinations as possible within a single day, we intentionally limit this itinerary to four remarkable locations. From our experience, overly crowded itineraries often leave guests feeling rushed and unable to fully appreciate each destination.
We believe that a meaningful journey should be experienced, not hurried. By selecting fewer destinations and allowing sufficient time at each location, our guests can explore more comfortably, connect with nature, and appreciate the distinctive beauty of Komodo National Park at a more relaxed pace.
As this is a private tour, the journey offers greater comfort, privacy, and flexibility for couples, families, and small groups.
Kanawa Island
Kanawa Island, a jewel of Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, is the perfect getaway for those craving tranquility and natural beauty. Just an hour's boat ride from Labuan Bajo, this small island offers soft white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and a relaxed atmosphere that feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle.
The surrounding waters are a snorkeler’s dream, teeming with vibrant coral reefs, colorful fish, and sometimes even sea turtles. The island’s hilltop also offers a short hike, rewarding visitors with breathtaking panoramic views of the Flores Sea and nearby islands.
Whether you’re swimming, lounging under the sun, or exploring the underwater wonders, Kanawa Island is a slice of paradise you won’t want to leave. It’s an ideal spot to unwind after an adventurous tour of Komodo National Park.
Rinca Island
Rinca Island, part of Komodo National Park in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), is a must-visit destination for adventurers seeking a close encounter with one of nature’s most remarkable giants—the Komodo dragon. As one of the principal natural habitats of this prehistoric reptile, the island offers an extraordinary opportunity to observe Komodo dragons in their natural environment.
Rinca Island is generally quieter and less visited than Komodo Island, making it an appealing alternative for travelers who prefer a more tranquil wildlife experience while still enjoying equally thrilling encounters with nature. Guided treks across the island allow visitors to explore the area safely and responsibly under the supervision of authorised rangers or local naturalist guides.
The island is characterised by open savannas, mangrove forests, dry rolling hills, and scenic coastal landscapes. Its rugged terrain and unspoiled natural surroundings create a distinctive atmosphere that reflects the raw beauty of Komodo National Park.
During the trek, guests may encounter Komodo dragons, deer, wild buffalo, monkeys, birds, and other native species. However, as all wildlife moves freely within its natural habitat, sightings cannot be guaranteed. Every visit offers a different experience, shaped by the animals’ natural behaviour, the weather, and the surrounding environment.
One of the highlights of Rinca Island is the viewpoint located along the trekking route. From this elevated position, visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding islands, rolling hills, coastal landscapes, and turquoise waters.
Rinca Island offers a unique blend of thrilling wildlife encounters, peaceful natural surroundings, and pristine beauty. It is an ideal destination for eco-tourists, nature lovers, photographers, and adventurers looking to explore the extraordinary biodiversity and landscapes of Komodo National Park.
All visits and trekking activities must be conducted in accordance with the regulations of Komodo National Park. Guests are required to remain with the authorised ranger or local naturalist guide, stay on designated routes, and follow all safety instructions throughout the visit.
Guests must never approach, feed, provoke, touch, or attempt to photograph wildlife from an unsafe distance. Respecting the animals, the environment, and all park regulations is essential to ensuring a safe experience and protecting the fragile ecosystem of Rinca Island for future generations.
Kalong Island
Kalong Island, also known as Flying Fox Island, is a small and peaceful mangrove-covered island located within Komodo National Park in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Surrounded by tranquil waters and untouched natural scenery, the island is renowned for its spectacular sunset wildlife experience and offers a serene contrast to the adventurous landscapes of the national park.
As the sun begins to set, large numbers of flying foxes, also known as giant fruit bats, may emerge from the mangrove forest and take flight across the evening sky in search of food. Their dark silhouettes against the changing colours of the sunset create a mesmerising natural spectacle and one of the most memorable wildlife experiences in Komodo National Park.
The movement of the flying foxes transforms the evening sky into a remarkable display of nature. Their gradual emergence from the mangroves, combined with the warm sunset light and peaceful surroundings, creates a beautiful and atmospheric conclusion to a day of exploring the islands of Flores.
The tranquil waters surrounding Kalong Island and the untouched beauty of its mangrove forest make this a calm and scenic stop during a Komodo National Park tour. Guests normally observe the island, sunset, and flying foxes from the boat, as landing on the island may be restricted for environmental protection and conservation purposes.
As this is a natural wildlife experience, the appearance, timing, direction, and number of flying foxes depend entirely on weather conditions, seasonal patterns, and the animals’ natural behaviour. Sightings cannot be controlled or guaranteed.
Kalong Island offers a unique and peaceful nature experience that beautifully complements the adventurous spirit of Komodo National Park. It is the perfect way to end a day of island exploration, surrounded by tranquil waters, vibrant sunset colours, and the remarkable wonders of nature.
